Demand Responsive Transport Harnessing technology and innovative service delivery to meet new opportunities for public transport service provision by minibus and shared taxi
Date Of Conference: 12/5/2023
Experiments in demand responsive transport schemes have snowballed in the last four years, thanks to the support of government grants and other public funding, plus market testing by innovative operators.
A real revolution in public transport provision is in prospect. But there are still questions to be answered. How can we best harness the experiences gained from running existing services? What are the economics and where are the demand responsive markets of tomorrow? How do we overcome the barriers to making DRT part of the integrated transport mix, rather than just an add-on? And does DRT have a real future without the extended support of government funding?
This conference will bring together some of the key players in the sector to provide a thought-provoking event that puts under the spotlight both the vision and the practicalities associated with further development of demand responsive service provision. Speakers include: Stephen Styles, Principal Transport Officer, Surrey County Council; Marcus Enoch, Lecturer in Transport Studies, Loughborough University; Peter Openshaw, Head of Bus Partnership and Regulation Branch, DfT; Stuart Yeatman, Business Planning Manager, Chiltern Railways; Stuart Stones, Project Manager, Deeside Shuttle and David Blainey, Transportation Officer, Flintshire County Council; Robert Andrew, Deputy Managing Director, Stagecoach Scotland; Philip Brown, Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain; Steve Wright, Chairman, Licensed Private Hire Car Association; Peter Warman, Independent Transport Consultant; June Armstrong, Community Transport Officer, Hampshire County Council; Gordon Harrison, Planning Policy Officer, Nexus; Dr Jenny Mageean, Research Associate, TORG, University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
